Question from Tinker

My mother was just bragging that she gained less than 20lbs while pregnant with me. I was about 7.5lbs at birth, so clearly I wasn’t an underweight baby. But I was a chubby toddler and have struggled with my weight ever since. My biggest issue seems to be a feeling of panic when I don’t think there is “enough to eat” in the house. It’s probably stupid, but did her dieting while pregnant do something to make me afraid of starving?

  • Nic:

Maybe stop blaming your mom and take control of your own life?

  • No….that had nothing to do with you. And 7.5 is a good, healthy weight for a baby. Your Mom probably just watched what she at so she didn’t gain a bunch of excess weight during pregnany. But the whole you feeling nervous about not having enough food in the house…well I don’t want to be cruel, but you’re letting FOOD rule your life. If it’s that big of deal to you, you should definitely go to the doc.

  • The recommended weight gain during pregnancy is a little over 9 kg. So I don’t know why your mum is ‘bragging’, that is quite normal. Your fear of starving has nothing to do with your mum.

  • NO I really don’t think your mother dieted while carrying you. You were a health baby weight. This is something that is yours and yours alone. Take control Make up your mind go on a low carb diet if you eat eggs, green veggies, meat and fish for about a week or so then add yellow veggies, then melons, then friut, stay away from flour, starch, sugar, and anything with carbs. You will eat some carbs but read the labels and keep them as low as you can. green veggies you can eat all you want use them as snacks. Stay out of the kitchen! Let your mom worry about if there is enough food in the house. Go out with friends and have fun. When your friends want to go out to eat order a salad. You will not starve your mom won’t let that happen.
