Question from retrobw
I was on whattoexpect.com and it mentioned that statistically women that experience nausea during pregnancy are less likely to miscarry, though many women have had perfectly healthy babies and not been sick at all.

I was wondering if anyone else has heard this before?
I have had two miscarriage before my current pregnancy, and at 9 weeks pregnant, this is the first pregnancy I’ve actually been sick, and VERY sick at that! Though my last pregnancies didn’t make it past 5 weeks. I have high hopes for this pregnancy

I, as well as my mom, mother in law, and two co-workers who are also pregnant did not experience morning sickness at all. I think this is just another one of those silly statistics. I think if it is meant to be it will.
Good luck and best wishes with your pregnancy.
yes they say so, even though there’s no proof for that! there are still lots of women who feel perfectly fine and have a healthy baby – I’d love that because I feel like crap all the time and it feels like it will never get any better
It’s not so much that nausea is something that will make it less likely that you miscarry. It’s the fact that the hormone that the placenta secretes is usually what makes a woman sick especially in the beginning of pregnancy. If this hormone isn’t present, it means the placenta either hasn’t formed or isn’t functioning, which will eventually lead to miscarriage. So if you do have nausea you can be assured than your placenta is working well, but if you don’t have nausea, it also doesn’t mean anything because some women just don’t get sick. Not to mention that every pregnancy is different, so you may get sick once and then not the second time, you never know. Even if you are sick it’s still not a guarantee that you wont miscarry for other reasons.
its really not true, each persons different, they say the more sick you are the healthier the baby and i have been very sick and my babys very healthy but my mom was sick puking the whole 9 months with me and i was born small and over 2 weeks late. it really varies for everyone
i dont think there is much truth to that. i was very sick in my last pregnancy and i miscarried. i am not as sick in this pregnancy and everything is ok. So sorry for your losses, Good luck with this pregnancy.
I never had morning sickness with either of my kids and neither did my sister and my daughter! I think it is one of those wacky tales!
I’ve heard that too. I believe it’s because nausea is caused by all the extra hormones that your body is producing; lower levels of hormones can indicate that there is something wrong with your pregnancy or that your body is not supporting it well.
Of course, it’s also true that plenty of women have healthy pregnancies without expriencing terrible morning sickness.
Best of luck to you!
yes i did it is cause your hormones level is high thats why u have morning sicknes. i was feeling nausea until 18 weeks and also had heavy bleeding at 7 weeks but all is good now i am 26 weeks. u just have to think possitive and take it day after day. everything will be just fine. good luck:)
Rhia B is right, it has more to do with the pregnancy hormone, and some women just handle the increase better than others, making their sickness very mild, but that doesn’t mean they have less of it, which is what is more likely to contribute (or at least be related) to a miscarriage.
Hmmm never heard that. I get really really sick, and my little girl is pretty healthy… I think it’s just some random statistic that lines up for some reason.
There’s lots of “myths” like if you have heartburn/reflux, your baby will have a lot of hair. Or if the heartbeat is fast, it’s girl. There’s a bunch I can’t think of right now.
I hope this pregnancy works out for you and both of you stay healthy!
i was reading what to expect if you are expecting yesterday and it says that each pregnancy is different, sometimes you get sick, sometimes you don’t though of course having morning sickness is a clue that you are clearly still very much pregnant so that has to be a positive of having it?!
