Based on the online pregnancy calculator, I am 6 weeks today. I would like to know if the prenatal vitamins ‘Rite Aid Prenatal Tablets with Folic Acid are a good brand and if it has all of the vitamins my baby needs for a daily serving?
I haven’t had morning sickness yet, but I do feel like I’m going to vomit when I sit or stand up. With that said, ramen noodles are pretty much the only thing I can make myself during the day. I know it is bad because of sodium.
I know that you need Omega oils as well. Is it ok if I take a supplement for that or does it need to be the real thing?
The way I feel at times, what if it takes me forever to eat because of the way I feel? Will my baby be harmed?
I’m sorry for all of the questions, I’m just paranoid and want to have a happy and healthy baby!!
Thanks to all input!
First of all ‘DARCYMC’, should I assume that you are answering in the manner you are because of 2 points? Your response was pathetic and non-helpful. Keep karma in mind! ![]()
Thank you so much for your input guys!! All were good answers except for 2 or 3! Best wishes for all of you!!

try to eat healthy, have some walks.. dont sleep too much. ramen noodles are going to get you fat, then its gonna be harder to give birth. drink lots of water
Any source of multi-vitamin with Folic Acid is good for you and the baby. It doesn’t matter how long it takes you to eat, as long as you are eating. If you’re worried about the sodium content on the Ramen Noodles (I ate those alot during my pregnancy, too..And they didn’t get me fat!) get the ones with low sodium..It is a big difference in the content, believe it or not.
I haven’t actually heard of the vitamins you asked about, but any of them are fine.
Good luck and don’t worry too much about trying to have the healthiest pregnancy..I mean, of course, take care of yourself and the baby, but the more you worry, the worse it is! Good luck!
Congrats…First id make an appointment with your obgyn theyll take blood, urine, and do a pap, and a ultrasound which will help determine how far you are. They’ll prescribe you prenatal vitamins, that will probably be cheaper if you have insurance…if not ask them for a recommendation.
If you want an extra DHA supplement alot of woman like EXPECTA for an extra to help with brain development.
And if your feeling sick…and omg its horrible i had all day sickness try eating more often…like having 5 to 6 small meals a day, and keeping your stomach with something in it. It helped me a whole bunch!
And dont be sorry for all the questions, its a good thing to be worried about your baby…i was and still am!
first thing is first .. you need to get into a doctor and let him check you out! secondly, you need some sort of DHA supplement in your vitamins that supports the building brain of the baby. ramen noodles are not good — they have alot of salts .. be careful of processed foods .. they may be okay for you .. but they aren’t exactly healthy for the baby. try celery, carrots, tomatoes, strawberries, apples, pineapple, etc. — organic foods are good as well .. no preservatives. just watch what you eat .. not only because of the weight gain, but because of the health of the baby!
Most prenatal vitamins are the same as any other, just pay close attention to the folic acid levels and calcium. You need lots of folic acid, especially early on, so look for a prenatal vitamin that has close to 100% of the daily recommended allowance. You may want to take a calcium supplement as well. Don’t worry too much about only eating ramen noodles. Yes, it’s not the best diet, but sometimes during pregnancy you have to eat whatever you feel like you can keep down. As your pregnancy progresses, you will need to find something other than ramen noodles, because all that salt will make you retain water like nobody’s business, and it can be uncomfortable when your feet are so swollen you can’t fit them into a pair of shoes. If you take 40 minutes to eat a meal rather than 15, the baby is not going to be harmed. Eating slowly is better for you anyways, and the baby is drawing its nutrients from you, so even if you aren’t getting enough to eat the baby will draw from your stores. That’s why you need to pay attention to calcium intake, because if you aren’t getting enough to support you AND the baby, the baby will rob you of your needed calcium and your bones will suffer for it. Best of luck to you!
As long as you are taking prenatal vitamins and drinking lots of fluids you should be fine until you see your doctor. My doctor prescribed me a prenatal vitamin because he says they are better quality and more of the nutrients are absorbed. As for Ramen noodles, they are very high in sodium, contain trans fats, and have next to no nutrition. They are fine if that’s all you can handle, but try to eat some fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. In my first trimester I drank a Boost nutritional drink everyday to get the nutrition that my diet lacked. The high protein ones are especially good for the baby. But don’t worry- your baby will not be harmed!
Those vitamins are fine, I am using them and my OB has approved them. As far as nausea try adding a B6 50 mg supplement, consult your physician first before starting anything, as it helps with nausea and vomiting. Your prenatal contains B6 but not in a significant enough amount to help with nausea. When you get this under control you should feel well enough to eat a better variety of foods. Ramen noodles are high in sodium but at this point of it is the only thing you can keep down then eat them, it’s better than nothing. And when your stomach is empty nausea can sometimes be worse. Your baby takes the nutrients it needs from you so do not worry about adding all these extra supplements as your prenatal vitamin contains sufficient amount of all the things you need as long as you are eating a healthy well-balanced diet. Eat lots of green leafy vegetable and fruit, these are always high in nutrients! Good luck to you!
Don’t worry. You are normal. I felt really sick during my first trimester and couldn’t eat anything except McDonald’s. I was so worried that such crappy food would hurt the baby; my doctor said to just eat what I could and things would be fine (she said you don’t need as many calories during the first trimester and the baby will take what it needs from your body first…meaning YOU will go without nutrition before it will).
For sickness: Don’t let your stomach get too empty; that will make you feel sicker. My Dr. told me protein and carbs may make you feel better and will give you basic nutrition. She also said I could drink Ensure or Boost if I wanted to just make sure I was getting enough vitamins and all. Try also sucking on hard candy…saltine crackers and ginger ale are sometimes helpful too. Just don’t take any Pepto Bismol or anything since it’s not on the “safe” list.
I take One a Day prenatal vitamins with the DHA supplements included. You probably already know to limit your fish intake (no tilefish, swordfish, shark, or marlin). Things like shrimp and tilapia in moderation are good for the omegas.
