Question from ben8rachel
I am pregnant with twins and want to go camping. I am wondering if that seems OK to do, and what kinds of precautions should I take. Also is it OK to be on a motor boat at this time during a twin pregnancy. What kinds of camping activities would be OK and what kinds wouldn’t? Any advice on this matter would be helpful and appreciated. I want to go, I want to have fun and I want to be safe. We would be camping in a tent.

I would not go if i were you. but at the same time, it may be the last time for a while that you get to enjoy some recreational activities before the babies arrive. The motor boat might be too bumpy and it may cause your water to break. Also, at the end of pregnancy, it gets to be very, very hard to sleep even in a bed. You will be up peeing in the night a couple of times, and that sucks when you’re camping. Also, if you end up going, bring an air mattress or whatever is the very most comfortable thing you have to sleep on.
First of all CONGRATS! Well for one thing I couldn’t see myself camping this far along as it is already uncomfortable! As far as the boat I wouldn’t get on cause Always think of all the bad things that can go wrong. Then you need to be careful on the dirt and un leveled grounds on the camp site that you don’t accidentally slip and fall. I dunno I’m just super protective of my pregnancy.
It depends. If you mean camping right outside of town then why not? But if you mean a few states away from your doctor, NO WAY.
I would say the biggest reason not to go camping is just because of how uncomfortable you would be sleeping on the the ground and all.
I would not go in a motor boat because your balance is alll thrown off and I wouldn’t want to risk falling and hurting the babies in some way. And rock climbing is def out for the the same reason.
But, like I said, if you are just camping in your back yard (30 min or less from your hospital and doctor) and are just planning to sit around and eat and cook, then you are fine. If you want to go mountain climbing or deep sea fishing and camp several hours away, I wouldn’t.
But it is your and your babies health.
Would not recommend if you are past 36 weeks. Otherwise camp where you have easy access to 911 or a hospital in case anything happens. Avoid being too far from shore if you’re going boating. Bring extra blankets since the ground will not be comfy to sleep on. Try to avoid anything labor intensive so as to not set off baby labor. Check with your doc and see what they say. And if possible get copy of your prenatal record so if anything happens the doc you end up seeing will know your history.
camping is a great idea as long as you are no farther then 20 min to a hospital. don’t do anything stressful or lift anything heavy. bring your hospital bag just in case. you might want to get a good air mattress, and lots of pillows and water. if it is hot try to stay in the shade heat stroke is not fun when you are expecting (i know from experience). i wouldn’t go on a motorboat i think the bumps could put you in to labour and or prematurely rupture you membranes. hope this helps and if you go have fun.
I would not risk it. I had twins and barely made it to 7 months pregnant. So many things can happen if you are on a boat and lose your balance because it’s slippery and your center of gravity is already off. It’s not worth it for just a little fun. Hang in there mama you are in the home stretch.
I would avoid the boat and any long tiring hikes, but other than that, roast some marshmallows and sit by the lake and enjoy the fresh air. Take it easy, and like someone else said, don’t go too far from your doctor, lest you be delivering with Bambi watching….
If you are feeling comfortable you should go. I would just avoid too much hiking. It will be hot and your ankles and feet will be very swollen. Other than that I don’t see any other restrictions. Obviously you wouldn’t be the one chopping the wood for the fire! As far as sleeping in the tent, if you don’t have one I suggest getting an air mattress… I know it seems like cheating cause you aren’t really roughing it but I am going to be 30 weeks tomorrow and there is no way in hell you would get me to sleep on the ground right now lol! As I said in another answer to you, I went camping at 26 weeks when I was pregnant with my first, it really wasn’t bad. I love camping and wouldn’t mind going now if I thought I would be comfy. I would just make sure to have the cell handy for emergencies. As far as the motor boat, have fun. As long as you aren’t going on rough waters and the driver isn’t acting like an ass have fun! Have a blast!
