This is my first pregnancy and wanting to know what the average weight gain is while pregnant? Why do some women balloon up while others keep their small frames? Is it what they eat, do, excercise?

normal weight gain is 25-35 pounds..if you are under weight b4 you where pregnancy be prepared to gain more..if you are overweight b4..loosing a few pounds wont hurt!

  • I couldn’t gain weight for throwing up the entire time. I only gained 10 pounds.
I think the average is 25-30 pounds.

  • You’re supposed to gain 25-35 pounds while pregnant with a single baby. Some moms gain more because they’re carrying multiples or because they actually are eating enough for two although you’re only supposed to eat 300 extra calories for baby. It’s also a good idea to do light exercise such as walking, swimming, or yoga so that your body stays in good physical shape, no matter how round your tummy is. It make labor easier AND makes it easier to lose weight after baby is born. Also beware of not gaining enough…years ago, they advised moms not to gain more than 15 pounds, but considering baby takes up about 7 1/2 pounds, placenta takes up 1 1/2 pounds, your bigger breasts take up 2, and extra fluid takes at least 2, that only left ONE pound for the mother’s body to expand and mom to gain a bit of weight herself. All in all, 7-17 pounds of your weight gain should be maternal fat stores.

  • Average suggested weight gained is between 25 and 30 pounds. Although I started off over weight and only gained 11 pounds with this pregnancy (38 weeks) and I lost almost 20 pounds with my first one. The doctors have not really said anything because baby is growing and thriving just fine. So remember that the 25-30 pounds is just an average suggestion on what to gain. Some women explode while pregnant due to genetics and/or over indulging, then others their metabolism just explodes and they can’t gain or they are very sick with nausea and so.

Check the link below to answer your question! If pre-pregnancy weight was in the healthy range for your height according to your healthcare provider (a BMI of 18.5 to 24.9), you should gain between 25 and 35 pounds, gaining 2 to 5 pounds in the first trimester and about 1 pound per week for the rest of your pregnancy for the optimal growth of your baby.

    dats cool!

On average a woman with normal BMI before pregnancy should gain 25 to 35 pounds. Weight gain during pregnancy is mostly water and the weight of the growing baby. While pregnant your body stores 4 to 6 pounds of extra water.
I only ate healthy foods and drank only water or low fat milk and exercised regularly with both of my pregnancies, and with my first I gained about 47 pounds and only 26 with my second.
