How accurate are home pregnancy tests? Can you be pregnant and still test negative?

I am currently on the pill and very regular. I didn’t have a period last month so i tested and it came back negative. This month i missed again and tested and it came back negative again. Do you think it is possible even though the pregnancy test came back negative that i could really be pregnant?
